What are the benefits of Smart Door Locks?
Smart Locks are ultimately about two things: security and convenience.
They allow you to unlock your door remotely or hands free. They let you give temporary access to guests without the need for a key copy. They can track who comes and goes with personalized access codes. And of course, they make sure you’re never locked out, because there’s always a backup way to enter.
What are all these ways to enter?
Depending on the model you choose, you’ll have a combination of the below unlocking options:
- Manual Key. It’s a classic for a reason.
- Passcode. Personalize, set up temporary codes, and add up to 100 unique codes on select models.
- Keycard. An included NFC keycard can be held to the sensor for easy unlocking that can’t be duplicated.
- App. The Feit Electric app allows you to unlock your door remotely at any time.
- Fingerprint Scanning. Add your fingerprint scan for easy, fast access.
How do biometric access options work?
Fingerprint scanning is an un-hackable unlocking method unique to every user and impossible to misplace. It's the perfect option for kids or family members who may otherwise forget a passcode or lose their housekey, as well as for adults with their hands too full to dig around in a purse or pocket.
When you present your fingerprint to the scanner, the lock identifies recognition points in your skin’s unique grooves and patterns. It stores those points as a code, just like a PIN or passcode. When the same fingerprint is presented to the scanner again, the lock searches its database for the matching code and sends the signal for the deadbolt to unlock.
Where do I start with my install?
It’s easier than it looks. Each unit will come with its own instruction guide for your use, and below we’ve linked a video guide with more visuals. Here’s what to expect:
- No hardwiring is required. Your lock comes with AA batteries, and select models have an integrated, rechargeable backup battery.

Most likely, you can do this install with nothing but a screwdriver. If you’re missing a strike plate or have purchased a new door with no existing bore hole or latch hole, more tools will be required, but the lock itself can be installed with a few included screws. Your lock will also come with a handy template you can use to check your door meets the required specifications.

Make sure you have the Feit Electric app installed on your phone or tablet, as this is where you will set up your use profiles, choose passcodes, and control the lock remotely.

Your lock may self-calibrate during installation. This will be called out in your instruction manual, but don’t be alarmed if the deadbolt engages and disengages on its own while it configures itself to the direction your door opens.
