LED Recessed Downlight FAQs
What's the difference between a retrofit and a canless recessed downlight?
A retrofit drops into an existing recessed housing already installed in your ceiling. A canless downlight mounts directly to the junction box with no housing needed. If you already have recessed cans, a retrofit is the simpler upgrade.
What size recessed light do I need — 4-inch or 6-inch?
4-inch fixtures work best in smaller spaces — hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, and ceilings under 9 feet. 6-inch fixtures are better for larger rooms, open living areas, and ceilings 9 feet and above. As a general rule, space fixtures 4–6 feet apart for even coverage.
Will a Feit Electric retrofit fit my existing recessed housing?
Feit Electric retrofit downlights are compatible with most standard 4-inch and 5/6-inch recessed housings. No rewiring required — the retrofit screws into the existing socket and the trim clips to the housing ring.
