Canless LED Recessed Lights

FAQ

Recessed Downlights FAQs

What is a canless recessed light?
A canless recessed light is a slim LED fixture that mounts directly to the junction box in your ceiling — no recessed housing or metal can required. Spring clips hold it flush against the drywall. Because there's no separate housing to install, canless fixtures are faster to install and work in both new construction and retrofit applications.
What's the difference between canless and retrofit recessed lights?
Canless lights require no existing housing — they connect directly to the junction box. Retrofit downlights are designed to drop into a recessed housing that's already installed in your ceiling. If you're starting fresh or adding new lights, choose canless. If you already have recessed cans, a retrofit is the simpler upgrade.
Are canless recessed lights IC-rated for insulated ceilings?
Yes. Feit Electric canless recessed lights are IC-rated, meaning they are safe to install in ceilings where insulation is in direct contact with the fixture. This is required by code in most insulated ceiling installations and eliminates the need to clear insulation around the housing.
