What size recessed fixture do BR40 bulbs fit?
BR40 bulbs are designed for 8-inch recessed can fixtures. With a 5-inch diameter, they're larger than BR30s and deliver higher light output — making them the right choice for high-ceiling rooms, large open-plan spaces, and great rooms.
Can I use a BR40 bulb in a 6-inch recessed can?
No — a BR40's 5-inch diameter is too wide for standard 6-inch recessed housings and will not seat properly. Using the wrong size can also cause overheating. For 6-inch cans, use a BR30 bulb instead.
What's the difference between a BR30 and a BR40 bulb?
BR30 bulbs fit 6-inch recessed cans and suit standard ceiling heights. BR40 bulbs fit larger 8-inch recessed cans and output more lumens — better suited for rooms with ceilings above 9 feet or spaces that need broader light coverage. Measure your fixture's opening diameter before choosing.
How bright is a BR40 LED bulb?
