FAQ
MR16 & GU10 LED Accent Light Bulbs FAQs
What's the difference between MR16 and GU10 bulbs?
MR16 and GU10 are both small reflector bulbs used in track and accent lighting but use different bases. MR16 bulbs use a two-pin GU5.3 base and run on 12V low-voltage systems, requiring a compatible transformer. GU10 bulbs use a twist-lock base and run directly on standard 120V, making installation simpler without additional hardware. Check your fixture's base type before purchasing.
Do LED MR16 bulbs work in halogen fixtures?
Yes — Feit Electric MR16 LED bulbs are designed as direct replacements for halogen MR16s in compatible 12V fixtures. However, the existing transformer must be LED-compatible. Some older magnetic transformers may not work correctly with LED loads and may need to be replaced with an electronic LED-compatible transformer.
What wattage LED replaces a 50W halogen MR16?
A Feit Electric MR16 LED in the 5–7 watt range delivers equivalent brightness to a 50W halogen MR16 — approximately 400–500 lumens at up to 85% less energy. The LED version also generates significantly less heat, extending fixture life and improving comfort in display and task lighting applications.
Are GU10 LED bulbs dimmable?
Yes — Feit Electric dimmable GU10 LED bulbs work with LED-compatible dimmer switches on standard 120V circuits. Smooth, flicker-free dimming is particularly valuable in accent and display lighting where ambiance control is part of the overall design.
What color temperature works best for MR16 and GU10 accent lighting?
For accent lighting that enhances warm finishes, artwork, and natural wood tones, 2700K (warm white) or 3000K (soft white) is the preferred choice — both render colors accurately and create an inviting atmosphere. For retail display or task-focused applications where color clarity matters, 3000K–3500K balances warmth with precision. Feit Electric MR16 and GU10 LEDs are available in multiple color temperatures.
