How to Pick the Right Brightness Level for your LED Bulb

The keyword here is lumens. This is the standard measure of brightness for a bulb. The more lumens, the brighter the bulb will be. For years, we used to rely on a bulbs wattage to understand a bulb's brightness, but now we look to Lumens to choose the correct brightness. It’s pretty simple to understand lumens. The more lumens you have, the brighter your light will be. How Much Light Do I Need? The main factor when deciding how many lumens you need is space. If you are lighting a large space, it may require a bulb with over 1000 lumens, but a small fixture or table lamp may be fine with only a few hundred lumens. Replace / Upgrade If you are just trying to replace an existing incandescent bulb with an LED and want the same level of brightness, then here’s a few tips.

  • Replacing a 40W bulb: look for at least 450 lumens

  • Replacing a 75W bulb: look for at least 1,100 lumens
  • Replacing a 100W bulb: look for at least 1,600 lumens
